Picture Perfect Festive Fun in Prague

In early January 2025, I had booked what was probably one of my cheapest flight deals ever £43.96 for us to fly to Prague from Luton with Wizzair - what a steal! I had, at the time, also cross referenced when the Christmas markets were open in Prague, and the answer had been that weekend so (hopefully) it was perfect timing!

After work on Friday 28th November, we drove to the Premier Inn Luton Town Centre (£43 for a family room) and did our usual trick of parking in the NCP Car Park next door for free! As our flight wasn't due to leave until 13:25, we had plenty of time on Saturday morning to enjoy our breakfast (£10.99 per adult, with kids eating free) - and it was actually cooked to order this time. We took an Uber to the Mid Stay Car Park for the bargain price of £6.95 and then walked through the tunnel to the airport.

The flight was nice and straightforward with iPads and colouring at the ready! And we spent £16 on snacks from the onboard menu. We arrived at just after 16:30 and were out of the airport, into a Bolt Taxi and (£17) and checked into our hotel one hour later.

We more or less dropped bags immediately and went straight out again, walking to the Old Town Square Christmas Market. It was lovely and Christmassy but.. (big but) I am not sure if I would go on this weekend another year. In actual fact it was the Christmas Markets' opening weekend and literally the whole world was out in force! So huge crowds everywhere, big queues for food, and - quite sadly - no horse rides to be seen, which we had really enjoyed the previous year. It certainly wasn't awful, but I think I would just recommend going at a quieter time if you can.

We were back in our room for around 8pm and really got to enjoy it then. Our hotel was the the Royal Road Residence and was 120 euros (£110) paid in advance on Booking.com. We had requested a room with a mezzanine (oh, I do love a mezzanine!) and Tiger slept in this loft-style bed whilst I was downstairs. The room was spacious and, although we didn't need it on this trip, even had a washing machine in the bathroom. I would absolutely stay here again - it was so central. It was a little noisy (and we were given earplugs) but honestly I really quite enjoyed the hustle and bustle and hearing the music from the bar below us!

The following day, Sunday 30th November, we left our hotel and headed out to breakfast in what was formerly The Bond Café but is now called Savor Cafe on Retezova 225. Completely delicious breakfast and they even had colouring baskets!

It was here that our Airbnb photographer Adela met us. We'd first met Adela the previous December on our longer trip to Prague so it was like meeting an old friend - and the photos (£80) were of course completely amazing!

After we bid Adela goodbye, we walked to our next stop which was a Beer Spa! We'd booked this via GetYourGuide for £89. We had an hour's slot here, essentially in the basement of the Majestic Hotel. Wow what an experience! You are not in a bath of beer, rather you're in a bath which has hops in it and is apparently very good for your skin. It's probably a little more fun with friends that with your seven year-old however we had such fun with beer on tap (sparkling water for Tiger). It is also a good experience to help you warm up after walking around in the freezing cold for a while. You even get a bottle of beer to take away but I declined this as we were flying home hand luggage only!

After we'd got changed we walked back towards the Old Town Market and en route tried the trdelník (chimney cake), Prague’s unofficial Christmas snack, at Sweet Verteo. Two huge chimney cakes were 410 czh (£14.92).

We couldn't hang around too much though as we had to get back to the airport quick smart! So we headed back to the hotel to get our bags which had been stored in their reception area and jumped in a Bolt taxi to the airport (about 14km, 25 mins, and cost 480 CZK / £17). At the airport I was on the look out for kids play areas (they are all marked in an airport map) but were just fairly swifly onto the plan in our standard Wizzair (non paid for) seats in row 28! This is a row without a window and only two seats with the crew seat next to us. It is quite amusing to me now that Wizzair put us here almost every flight now!

Our flight home to Luton was 18:45, and landing at Luton at 19:55. We had food and drink on the plane for £21. Upon landing we made amazing time, were straight through passport control, walked to the Holiday Inn Express, Uber from there to pick the car up (£13) from the Luton Town Premier Inn, and we were home and in bed in Bordon for 10:30pm! Christmas 2025 had officially kicked off - a real joy and a pleasure to visit Prague again and I'm sure we'll be back soon!
