Dune 45 at Dusk

On Monday 8th April, we drove the 120km (about 2 hours) to Sesriem, arriving at our next accommodation, Desert Camp. It was hot hot hot and we arrived just after midday. Our little 'twin unit' was brilliant and comfy for us all with twin beds and a sofa bed for Ella. I had booked this via Booking for 4860 NAD (£222) for 2 nights.

We had a rest in the heat of the day and eventually emerged to check out the pool at 4pm. After this we went into the Namib-Naukluft National Park at dusk for 3 hours. This meant that we did actually have to pay to go into the park twice (for the next day also) but this was well worth it. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous as we climbed the famous Dune 45 (170m tall and 45km pretty much straight in from the Sesriem gate.

After exhausting ourselves on the climb, we drove out of the park spotting ostrich on the way and had a buffet dinner at the Sossusvlei Lodge, which was the hotel business co-owned by Desert Camp, and just a few minutes drive away.

We collapsed into bed, but were up again for 6am the next day for sunrise and to head back into the park!
